Kind Words Are Like Honey

A few months ago, Melania Trump, made an urge for “more kindness and compassion”.  The media was in a frenzy discussing how her husband is quite the opposite of ‘kindness’ and ‘compassion’. I mean I have to agree. We can’t make a call to action for “more kindness” when the epitome of intolerance breeds the halls of your home. Is there kindness in the action of Trump while engaging with his own children? Or does our dear president breathe mercilessness while spewing toxic words of intolerance with his children? There is something to be said when our actions don’t align with the very words that we speak. Melania, if you are out there – are you deaf to the words your husband speaks? Where is the personal accountability in the hypocrisy of speaking words for all to take action when our very action ignore the poison seeping from our operation.

I saw these words, “kind words are like honey- sweet to the soul.” We spew out words as if there is no value or substance. But, what if we could sweeten our words more. I find myself telling my son, “add a little sugar to your words and try again”.
What aren’t we taken more time to reflect on the words we speak? I heard this young lady say at work one day, “kill me already”. I cringed thinking to myself and listening to her rant about how her tasks were slowly cutting her down and seeping the life out of her. If only she knew, words have power. We have a choice to STOP the bleeding. Pour honey over each letter and allow for the word to saturate in sweetness. As the words penetrate the heart vessel, life emerges while the spirit is encouraged and empowered to sustain another day.

We never know how a little act of kindness, or kind words will build up a legacy of goodness and an army of greatness.

screen-shot-2017-09-01-at-6-15-06-pm.pngIt seems so simple – ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’.  Yet, we find it difficult these days to include a little respect into this recipe we call – life. We see a painted picture of life and fall into the belief that kindness is rare.

At the end of the day, you need to choose the gears that build your character. Imagine pedaling up a steep hill on a bike you built from scratch. You struggle to climb the hill ~ wondering why the choice of gears has not provided the much needed relief from exertion. Your climbing force has loss momentum. Gears become the simple mechanism you choose to provide the much needed power allowing access to pedal through life. What is the quality gear you have chosen to build your character? Did you choose to add a strong character, integrity, honesty to increase velocity? Or, are did you choose gears that have you struggling to gain momentum? In order to choose quality gears you must learn to love yourself first.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (1 Corinthians 13:4-6)

The basic principle of treating others the way you would like to be treated stems from learning to love yourself first. The way you treat others is a reflection on how you care for yourself. Are you patient when you stumble? Are you proud, so puffed up you haven’t notice the oxygen in the room has depleted? Some basic principles, but not so basic for those choosing to hide behind their computer machines- spewing hatred, uncontrollable toxic opinions. Where is the authentic love for one another? It emerges in the heart when great disasters command attention by force. It’s the same love we should decide to apply in our every day lives with each post, tweet, comment. Tweet others the way you want to be tweeted and allow LOVE to take precedent in your life!

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. (1 Peter 1:22)
